Rocio Sánchez Ruiz is trying to connect with people from the music world, and focus her music in people with no knowledge of music to introduce them the classical music. Rocio lives in Spain, started her music education at 8 years old in her own town, then continued her studies with numerous well-known guitarists in Spain, from each teacher she learned the different styles and techniques and from there, she is able to integrate to her own style of playing.
HOW DOES YOUR MUSIC CAREER USE YOUR SKILLS AND TALENTS, AND WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW? WHAT NEW SKILLS HAVE YOU LEARNED IN THE LAST YEAR?
I try to be a fashion musician in the classical world. Nowadays I have my first CD, ORÍGENES, based on music around the world, Basil, Spain, Japan. I try to integrate all my learning, technique, style, in the music around the world, looking for the essence of each music. T his last year I have learned a lot about how to connect more with the audience, because I was playing regularly in a small place, where you can be more in touch with the audience, see their face, and their expressions during the concert.
WHAT OBSTACLES HAVE YOU OVERCOME TO GET WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?
I think that want to be a musician is an obstacle in your life because it is not easier, but if you work hard, finally you think you are in the right way, although it is real that there are a lot of obstacles on your road to being a musician, right now, because of the pandemic, we are in the most important obstacle I´ve ever had, but I´m sure working hard we could start again.
HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR TIME OUTSIDE OF WORK? AND WHAT WOULD YOU BE IF YOU WERE NOT A PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN?
I love doing sport, running, and yoga. I try to do my yoga practice daily, it´s something really important to do my best. I´m a familiar human being, so if I can, I spend time with my family.
I think that if I hadn´t been a musician, I would be a doctor or nurse, the do the best thing for all the population, they save lives.
