Vieness Piano Duo – Los Angeles, California

The Vieness Piano Duo – Eva Schaumkell and Vijay Venkatesh. Eva was born in Wiesbaden, Germany, and Vijay grew up in Orange County, California. They currently live in Los Angeles, where they spend most of their time playing music.  Congrats to their newlyweds since October of 2019.

Eva and Vijay both began playing the piano when they were four years old, and it was when they were preparing for college that they decided they wanted to pursue a career in music. Eva attended the Guildhall School in London before going to the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden. She then moved to Los Angeles to attend school at USC, and that is where she met Vijay.

Vijay spent his time studying at USC, Indiana University, and now attends classes at Coburn. They decided to create Vieness Piano Duo two years ago.

The Vieness Piano Duo’s Concerts

The 2018/2019 concert season was extremely busy for Vieness Piano Duo. They were part of the Kultur unter’m Dach over in Germany, Le Salon de Musiques at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Summer Stars series in Ocean Grove, NJ, and the Music Guild of LA. Their most massive concert was the one in Ocean Grove, NJ. and they were thrilled with the opportunity of performing in front of five thousand people!

In preparation for all these concerts, Eva and Vijay spent lots of time practicing and rehearsing.

Of course, performing at each concert left them even more prepared for those in the future. Eva and Vijay worked together to improve with their music and their stage presence continuously.

Vieness Piano Duo’s Unique Story

Eva and Vijay believe that music has transformed everything within their lives. They believe music allows them to connect to other art forms like painting, photography, and more. They are always looking for new inspiration for their music so that they can create pieces the audience will love.

The Goals for Vieness Piano Duo

Eva and Vijay understand that it is harder than ever to be a musician in today’s world. Fifty years ago, winning a competition would mean an instant career boost. Nowadays, winning will only make people expect even more from a musician.

Therefore, they know they need to be engaging during performances, interact with the audience, and promote themselves both on and off stage.  In their recent video of Piazzolla’s Libertango, they collaborated with two dancers, so that viewers could engage in classical music in a format familiar to them. It was a demanding project and they felt even more inspired filming with the dancers to create an interactive performance.
