Germana Porcu, from Italy and currently lives in Milan, decided that she would be a musician when she was only ten years old. She loves music, and with her mother’s guidance to focus on-going learning mindset in her life, when due to the business or travel reasons that she didn’t have time for music, she felt bad about herself. She always tried to range as much as possible in various chamber ensembles and gain a lot of experience that made her grow and understand what she wants and what she doesn’t want.
WHAT PROJECT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW THAT BEST SHOWCASE THEM?
I currently have some nice record projects that I would like to complete shortly. In the last year, I have had the opportunity to play Beethoven’s Triple Concert with the great pianist B. Canino and the cellist S. Laffranchini, the first solo cello of Teatro alla Scala in Milan. I think it was one of the most beautiful experiences so far, I was excited because I was joined by two great musicians, working with them was fantastic, I grew up musically thanks to this comparison. They have been great, funny, human as well as incredibly professional.
During this period of quarantine due to Covid-19, I took part on a violinistic project that involves the execution of one of the 24 Capricci by P. Rode which will then be broadcast on the channel of the Musical Magazine ‘Suonare News’, which will also produce a record, together with the other 23 Capricci which will be performed by 23 other fabulous Italian violinists among the most influential. In this delicate moment we feel a strong need for solidarity and closeness, as well as being a message of encouragement for all young violinists who feel a little lost in this period: never stop studying, never lose perseverance, we remain united and human.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF TO AUDIENCE THAT HAS NEVER HEARD OR SEEN YOU BEFORE?
I am sunny, I love all music, from classical to jazz, as long as it conveys emotions. And that’s what I go on stage with my violin. There are moments in which I feel particularly sensitive to be moved while I am playing, and I believe it is among the most beautiful emotions that a human being can experience, feeling at one with the music and with the silent audience that thanks for sharing and finally… warm applause. I am very curious and self-critical, I try to be a perfectionist to the fullest, trying to remember the famous Dalì aphorism: do not be afraid of perfection, you will never reach it (lol). A good musician always tries to improve himself and go beyond the limit reached.
WHAT CAREER SUCCESSES ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF HAVING ACCOMPLISHED? WHAT ARE YOUR NEXT GOALS?
I am proud of every step and goal that I have achieved, small or large, starting from the international competitions that, in addition to the prize itself, have allowed me to confront and meet fantastic musicians from all over the world, I have been able to set new limits, this is absolute and permanent wealth.
My next goals concern new collaborations and ideas, new recordings, and last but not least, always improve myself.
