Matthew Bergheau is a pianist from France who has worked hard to get where he is today. He is currently an up and coming French pianist who has a large repertoire of works by Bach, Chopin, Beethoven, Schumann, Liszt, Rachmaninov, and Prokofiev.
Matthew’s Beginning as a Musician
Matthew has basically taught himself how to play the piano and ninety-five percent of his musical skills have come from his hard work of learning alone. While he has played the piano for many years, he has needed to take a break twice during his life. Both breaks were caused from brain surgeries that he needed when he was only 18 and 26 years of age. His recovery was more important both those times and the piano basically took a back seat each time.
However, after his second recovery, Matthew knew that he wanted to be a true musician. He knew that music would help him enjoy his life more, so he started recording his music every single day. While that kept him quite busy, he also chose to start a YouTube channel and Instagram account. Those two things allowed him to see how people reacted to his music and whether or not they liked it.
Matthew’s Preparations for Concerts
Matthew believes in simple preparations when it comes to concerts. He begins by playing for one or two hours each day prior to the concert. Once he walks on the stage, he spends a few seconds getting into the mood for each piece prior to striking the first piano key.
Matthew’s first concert in front of an audience almost never happened, despite this preparation. He completely lost his focus and couldn’t remember the music three minutes before he walked on stage. Thankfully, he was able to empty his mind and get focused when he sat down. He found he was no longer stressed, and he knew that he wanted to do this more in the future.
Matthew’s Best and Worst Decisions
The best decision that Matthew has ever made was choosing to live a life as a musician. When it comes to bad decisions, he cannot think of one that he truly regrets. He knows that he has made some mistakes, but he wouldn’t change them for anything, because they got him to the place he is today.
While Matthew loves Russian music, especially Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, and Scriabin, he has many goals for the future. He wants to increase his playing time with the orchestra and increase his social media popularity. He would also like to start composing more, so that he can create even more amazing pieces than he already has.
