Elizabeth Godsby

At age two, Elizabeth began to pick songs out on the piano by ear, beginning with “Ode to Joy” by Beethoven. Elizabeth is a gifted musician and, under the instruction of Elna Myburg since age 8, has won many piano competitions, including the Young Artist Competition and the Kingwood-Humble Music Teachers Association’s annual Piano Tournament.

Elizabeth played in ensembles at TMTA’s annual convention for 3 years with KHMTA, under the direction of Barbie Butler. She has been invited to participate in Baylor’s audition only Summer Piano Institute for 2 years, studying under the direction of Dr. Kae Hosada-Ayer and Jane Abbot-Kirk, earning awards for “Excellence in Collaborative Piano” and “Excellence in Piano Keyboarding Skills”. She was selected as “Female Camper of the Year” in 2018.

Elizabeth is also a vocalist. At one point last year including piano pieces, Heaven Sent Chorale, Laudate, Kingwood Chorale, and TPSMEA All-State Choir, she was working on a total of 51 pieces! She has been active in Heaven Sent Choirs for 7 years, and has sung soprano, alto and tenor. She has competed for Regional and Texas All-State Choirs for her 4 years in junior high and high school, making Region Choir every year, and the Texas Private School Music Educators Association All-State Choir both years as a Freshman and a Sophomore, giving her the opportunity to sing under the direction of Dr. Sandra Snow and Dr. Betsy Cook-Weber. She is also beginning her 3rd year with Kingwood Chorale, a college/community choral singing works such as Beethoven’s Mass in C major, under the direction of Dr. Todd Miller.

Elizabeth brings joy to others by playing piano at local assisted living facilities and an Alzheimer care facility, throughout the year. She is a hard-working student about to start her junior high of high school but enjoys spending time with family and friends. Elizabeth has begun a new era in her musical journey this August as a student of John Weems, and is looking forward to a rewarding future in music!
